The Wells Fargo Stage will host free cultural events and concerts across musical genres, from Brazilian jazz to flamenco, R&B, hip hop, a cappella—and even MJ-themed lip sync battles. CIAF will have the honor of presenting the first major public performances at Ballantyne’s new outdoor venue, The Amp. Fitness classes, presented by Brighthouse Financial, will take place on Saturdays and Sundays in various locations in Ballantyne’s Backyard and Levine Avenue of the Arts, against backdrops of inspiring CIAF art installations to spark thought and foster meditation.

Additionally, artists are needed to paint corn hole boards, picnic tables, and more for the CIAF Biergarten. Artists should visit the website for more information or to submit applications. Jain is one of nine local artists selected as a 2023 Blumenthal Fellow and awarded grants for their work by Blumenthal Performing Arts (BPA), the festival’s organizer and producer. BPA awarded $85,000 to this year’s fellows as part of its mission for the festival to bring together local and global artists in a cultural celebration.

Applications are now open for four other programs that will showcase local talent across genres in various locations from Uptown to South Charlotte throughout the duration of the festival. More information and application links can be found at charlotteartsfest.com/get-involved-2023. Along with Man, the Luminarium installation will be located at Ballantyne’s Backyard, a former golf course turned green space located at N. Community House Road that, for the 17-day duration of CIAF, will be home to a number of visual and immersive art installations by international and local artists.

(August 26, 2022) Charlotte, NC – Charlotte is less than a month out from the launch of the first ever Charlotte International Arts Festival—or CIAF—the ambitious display of arts and culture that will take over the Queen City for 17 days of discovery, play, and creativity September 16–October 2. Earlier this year, the Leon Levine Foundation pledged $100,000 to support CIAF. This newest pledge marks the foundation’s largest gift to the nonprofit performing arts organization to date. Several of last year’s most popular attractions will return, including a large-scale installation by Moradavaga, a collaborative of Italian and Portuguese architects. They’ll feature Lotty, a giant interactive squid sculpture complete with acoustic properties. Birdmen, the large-scale animated puppets, also returns with new surprises for children and those young at heart.

BOOM Charlotte Set to Host Seventh Annual Fringe Arts Festival

CIAF will also include installations by over a dozen artists from Blumenthal’s Fellows Class of 2021, and hundreds of other performances and showcases big and small over the two weeks it’s here. For the third year, Blumenthal Arts is seeking a new class of Fellows who will represent the best in festival projects that Charlotte artists have to offer. This work will be presented alongside the national and international acts and projects that are brought in during CIAF to be visited by thousands of festival attendees. Some of the events are ticketed shows at Blumenthal Performing Arts venues, and some are indoor or outdoor installations or performances that you can enjoy for free. Many more cultural events, artists highlights, showcases and other creative happenings are set during the festival. The  International Bazaar, a collection of 75 local merchants, vendors and nonprofit organizations, is set for the last weekend of the festival, Sept. 29 – 30.

An ambitious undertaking by Blumenthal Performing Arts, the festival was a huge step forward for the city and the region, where an arts festival to this scale and accessibility has never been realized before. Thanks to an overwhelmingly positive response, Blumenthal is excited to announce that CIAF will return September 15–October 1, 2023. Festivalgoers can also expect group fitness classes and meditation opportunities in two locations — Ballantyne’s Backyard and Levine Avenue of the Arts — on Saturdays and Sundays amid CIAF art installations. On select days, visitors to uptown can also participate in a swing dance, a giant game of musical chairs outside the Mint Museum, a silent disco, and yoga and fitness classes.

Luminarium invites visitors to explore labyrinthian tunnels and soaring domes inspired by Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids, and Gothic cathedrals. Each selected artist or group will receive a stipend of up to $1,000 for a full-length main stage performance or up to $250 for a biergarten stage or pop-up performance. Cultural Stages grants will be awarded to performing artists (bands, dancers, magicians, storytellers, etc.) to present work that is representative of their culture. Families with kids or older kids-at-heart might also snag tickets to shows like the “Gazillion Bubble Show,” and the “COCO Live-to-Film Concert,” where attendees can see a showing of the film accompanied by a live orchestra. On select days, guests can also watch an over-the-top water balloon fight, and participate in yoga and fitness classes. One of the newest is the second annual Charlotte International Arts Festival, which follows a similar model to the Charlotte SHOUT!

ciaf charlotte

He will be snapping and distributing pictures to visitors at Ballantyne’s Backyard during the festival. The 2023 Charlotte International Arts Festival (CIAF) will feature more than 200 events across multiple genres with most being free and open to the public and ticketed events starting at $5. Events will be held in different venues in Uptown and Ballantyne’s Backyard. Visitors to uptown Charlotte will get to walk beneath a ceiling of iridescent bubbles on Levine Avenue, where they can also play chess with friends or strangers, and sip beer in an outdoor biergarten — open at 3 p.m.

Brought us the bunnies; CIAF brings a giant squid in the form of Kraken, whose look was inspired by late 13th-century descriptions of a legendary sea creature that most likely influenced the best-known writings of Herman Melville and Jules Verne. The free immersive, interactive art installation inspires play from visitors of all ages. The final weekend of CIAF, hurricane weather hit Charlotte; Blumenthal’s staff worked quickly to reschedule performances and pivot outdoor events inside at SouthPark Mall. Visitors enjoyed free events BEES, a family-friendly interactive piece by Australia’s Polyglot Theatre, and SWAY’s Bloom! Blumenthal is thrilled to bring more playful, creative, innovative programming to CIAF in 2023.

“Lotty” by Moradavaga, a participatory art installation, is out of Portugal and Italy. The installation features a giant squid influenced by the best-known writings of Herman Melville and Jules Verne. The tube-like, orange creature allows visitors to look through the squid’s eyes and walk over its lengthy tentacles. Fans of the glowing model Earth in Founders Hall may also want to check out the immersive “Bella Gaia” show, at the Booth Playhouse Sept. 30 - Oct. 1. The show is inspired by astronauts who have seen Earth from space and features live music, dance and satellite imagery.

There were performances of all kinds, and large-scale interactive art installations. In addition to these exciting ways the local community can get involved in CIAF, Blumenthal is thrilled to announce that the 2023 class of Blumenthal Fellows has been selected. For the second year, nine artists participating in the program will present visual art installations alongside the national and international acts and projects that are brought to town during CIAF for the thousands of festival attendees who come to enjoy public events. (June 5, 2023) Charlotte, NC – The second annual Charlotte International Arts Festival (CIAF), a Blumenthal Performing Arts Original, will return to Charlotte September 15–October 1, 2023. The festival, which brings spectacular international arts and entertainment from all over the world, is also a celebration of the rich international cultures and local arts that are thriving in Charlotte.

We were directed to go to a gate across from our gate. The plane wasn't there yet so we had to wait for it to arrive, then deplane everyone and then wait again for the plane to be cleaned. After 45 minuites we were allowed on the plane.

Probably not AA fault but caused a 1 hour delay. I suspect i caught flu on this flight as i could hear someone coughing a few rows back and ended up with flu a few days later. Also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display.

Lilith is one sharp dressed woman Fandom

lilith owl house

Lilith is Eda's older sister and the disgraced former leader and lead historical scholar of the Emperor's Coven. She was living with her parents, trying to make up for lost time and to develop a cure for Eda and Lilith's curse, along with getting a job in the interim until the Day of Unity, where she was captured by The Collector. Lilith is a tall, slender middle-aged woman with pale ivory skin, pointy ears, dark teal lips, long, dark teal hair (revealed to be dyed), and aquamarine eyes. She has dark gray claw-like nails and an inverted kite-shaped sky blue gem on her sternum. By "Elsewhere and Elsewhen", Lilith found a new job as an assistant Curator at the Supernatural Museum of History. Luz and Lilith used the time pool to go back in time in the Deadwardian era to ask Philip Whitterbane on how to make the portal.

Friends / Allies

Regrouping with King and Luz, Hooty, and Lilith apologise for their apathy and ask of King to show him around the palace while Luz, hearing a worrying sound, goes to investigate. As King tells them stories behind the murals, Luz arrives and warns the gang that there are killer monsters lurking about the ruin. While King assures her the monsters are harmless, one of them appears on the ceiling and attacks. Lilith manages to stall it with ice magic but it soon breaks free so Eda, arriving on the scene, distracts it while the rest flee. Both in their owl beast forms, Lilith and Eda went on a rampage, chasing and fighting each other. Lilith eventually returned to normal, along with Eda, after her mother got through to her and apologized for neglecting her.

Season Three

Afterward, Luz is able to live with her friends and family in both the Human and Demon Realms, after the Collector creates a new, permanent portal door for her. In the series' final scene, when Luz turns 18, everybody throws a "King-ceañera" party for her, to make up for her using her previous three birthdays to help rebuild the Boiling Isles. She also learns that, while her original glyph magic died with the Titan, the growing King has developed new glyphs for her to learn.

Role in the series

However, he declares that he still remembers memories of power and order, calling Lilith ignorant as he leaves. When she expresses her insult, Luz tells Lilith to calm down as King's monarchal "backstory" is very important to him. Suddenly King enters with Eda and Lilith's staffs, deciding to bring them to his castle, shocking the trio. Unlike her sister Eda, Lilith is conservative, strait-laced, and generally law-abiding. She takes great pride in her role as a mentor and was initially surprised to see Eda at the latest Convention, believing she had finally decided to join one of the covens, only for her sister to laugh at the notion. Lilith also seems to be rather childish as after beast Eda blew a raspberry at her, she responded by pulling a funny face in insult.

Later on, the two both depressively lie on the sofa, with Lilith ranting about how she never got Gwendolyn's attention and King about how he's never even seen his father before. Thus, Lilith renounces Gwen as her mother and King decides his dad should seek him out himself, causing Hooty to try and calm them before things get out of hand. When King notes Gwen is trying to cure Eda, Lilith pretends not to care but the stress and jealousy causes the curse to activate.

The Collector creates a light show for everyone to enjoy and they all give a final goodbye. As Eda herself puts it, the Owl House is where she hides away from the pressures of modern life, cops, and ex‐boyfriends. The house serves as a major location for the plot and has appeared in almost every episode of the series so far.

Lilith would then remain with her sister, brewing elixirs in her cage in order to prevent Eda's cage from acting up. At some point Lilith also cut her hair to its original orange and curly form, likely from a result of being attacked by an enraged Owl Beast. After Luz and Hunter escape Belos' mind, Owlbert flew to inform Lilith about what happen. Owlbert told Lilith everything about Belos, Lilith was shocked to learn that Emperor Belos was a witch hunter and actually plan to wipeout everyone on the Day of Unity with a draining spell.

She quickly overpowers Willow and Gus and accidently destroys the hat, stating it wouldn't have worked anyway. In contrast to her sister Eda, Lilith is conservative, straight-laced, and generally law-abiding. She takes great pride in her role as a mentor and was initially surprised to see Eda at the latest Covention, believing she had finally decided to join one of the covens, only for her sister to laugh at the notion. She wears a long-sleeved two-tone dark gray dress and dark gray laced boots.

Character Information

Eda, announcing that being a wild witch forced her to work harder than her sister, attacks and the two battle, with Lilith using Luz as a meat shield to force Eda's attacks away at times. Noticing Eda's gem darkening, Lilith mocks her weakness and remarks the curse must be taking its toll, to which Eda taunts her at being unable to beat her at her weakest and attacks again. As Lilith shields herself, she recounts how Eda always thought herself superior and how she had to work smarter, to which Eda insists she IS better.

In "Agony of a Witch", she proves willing to do anything to achieve her goals, such as attempting to distract Eda by endangering her student Luz Noceda, and cursing Eda when she was younger. She is also shown to be quicker to anger and more impulsive and naïve compared to her sister, firmly believing Emperor Belos' false promise to remove Eda's curse. One day, after overhearing her mother's plan to heal her curse using extreme measures, she became scared and ran away from home. At some point of time after that, she fixed up an old tower which belonged to her father, then built the Owl House in front of it and started living inside.

She searches for the elixirs, only for them to have been cleared out by a medicine-distrusting Gwen earlier and thus in a nervous breakdown Lilith transforms into a gigantic raven-like beast. Meanwhile, Eda in a rage over all of the danger Gwen's bogus cures brought her, also transforms into the Owl Beast. The Raven Beast and Owl Beast attack each other and brawl all the way to Bonesborough, causing Luz and King to take off in hot pursuit, while Gwen goes off to confront her cure supplier over his lies. One morning after Luz and Eda get up, they hear Lilith's screams and see that she's beginning to shapeshift from the curse so Eda hands her some elixir to drink, warning her that stress makes the curse worse. Lilith realises how painful the curse was and expresses her remorse for cursing Eda all those years back, to which Eda forgives her and tells her that at least they have each other.

Back then she wore glasses with round lenses and the Hexside school uniform with yellow sleeves and leggings, thus signifying her as a member of the potions track alongside Eda. Certain texts assert that she later became a highly-favored wife of Lucifer; possibly, this is referenced by her choice to nickname Hooty 'Hootsifer' as a sign of their friendship. After the Collector stops the Draining Spell, Lilith and Hooty try to save King, only to be turned into puppets by the Collector.

Around eight years after that, she let Luz stay with her upon her request, with the condition that she must work for her. Up on the petrifying stage, when Eda is almost entirely encased in stone, Luz shows up and uses the plant spell to destroy the petrifying machine. Eda takes Luz, Lilith, and King and flies off the castle, escaping from the guards as people cheer for them delightfully. Emperor Belos appears and informs the crowd that the Titan told him to spare Eda but gives a warning to anyone who hopes to use wild magic, and adds that her curse will strip her of her powers and render her useless.

After splitting the curse between herself and Eda in "Young Blood, Old Souls", Lilith's right eye becomes gray, and she obtains a gray streak on the right side of her hair. In the second season, Lilith's skin has gotten paler, and she has prominent wrinkles under her eyes. In "Follies at the Coven Day Parade", the lower portion of her hair becomes fluffy and curly. In "For the Future", her hair has been cut short, exposing her natural red hair.

Emperor Belos tells her not to worry as the guards will always keep an eye on them. In the meantime, before the Day of Unity, the Emperor's Coven must complete a huge machine that looks similar to a portal, which reveals that the magic door is not completely broken. When Lilith brings Eda to Emperor Belos, he demands she give him the portal to the human realm. When she refuses, he decides to have Luz give it to him, and has Eda taken away. When Belos reveals he had no intention of curing Eda and instead decides to have her petrified, he hands Owlbert to Lilith and tells her to destroy him, something she refuses to do, however. Shocked that the emperor had lied to her, and that she spent so much time serving Belos for nothing, Lilith decides to help Eda escape.

Hooty

Hooty was upset to see Lilith go, but they promised to keep in touch as pen pals. In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", Hooty wrote to Lilith on how he help King unlock his new power, Eda accepting the owl beast and becoming Harpy Eda, and encouraged Luz to ask Amity out. In "Escaping Expulsion" Lilith is the perfect student as she masters the basics of using glyph magic and excelling at more complicated versions of the glyphs. After saving Eda and King from an experimental glyph combo, she reveals that the glyphs are words that draw from the magic around them.

Powers and abilities

Upon arriving, Lilith and Luz bend and discover that the people during this era were nice, friendly, and helping others. Later, Owlbert told Lilith about the true purpose of the Day of Unity, she learned the Day of Unity was actually a mass draining spell that Belos plans to use to wipeout everyone in the Demon Realm. Lilith would continue to search for Eda after being promised by her leader Emperor Belos that he would cure her. While her motivations are good, her overall methods turn out to be more more harm than good.

Worsening Curse and Reuniting with her Mother

Luz finds a Deadwardian time pool and thus, while Lilith is somewhat concerned about the dangers of time travel, she and Luz decide to dive in. To confirm the story Eda produces the horn fragment from her hair, causing King to remember his true past as he holds it. With his former life revealed to be a lie, King flees in shock into the jungle, forcing the party to split up and find him. Fortunately, Luz finds and consoles him and encourages the gang to return to the palace as it may hold more clues on his true origins. Entering the castle, Lilith and Hooty distract the monster by getting Hooty to spit out potions at it while Eda, Luz and King remove the blockage at the castle's roof. They fly up the shaft, finding an empty room but King somehow opens another room allowing them to evade the monster.

Season Three

Unfortunately, the curse took hold, leaving Lilith devastated, but ironically giving her exactly what she wanted. Using her high connections, Lilith rose in the ranks and has become determined to capture Eda and force her to join the coven, not just to tame her, but to cure her of the curse she inflicted on her. It is revealed that Lilith was jealous of how Eda was more powerful than her. During the duel to save Luz, Lilith was losing despite her advantage by holding Luz prisoner.

However, this would backfire as Eda would notice it and publicly expose Lilith for giving Amity an unfair advantage. Lilith's underhanded tactics would cause Amity to lose respect for her mentor.[8] Eda goes on childishly mocking Lilith for cheating, until she finally snaps and engages Eda in an intense Witch's Duel. Both witches are equally matched as they cast aggressive spells that cause everyone to flee the theater. Lilith manages to overpower Eda, but just as she prepares to land the finishing blow, Eda pleads for mercy.

The fight scene between Eda and Lilith at the climax of Agony of a Witch parallels their fight in the backstory in Young Blood, Old Souls. In one Lilith was supposed to fight Eda to get into the Emperor’s Coven, and in the other (among other reasons) Lilith has to fight Eda if she wants to stay in the Emperor’s Coven. In both situations Lilith knew/feared she’d lose to Eda in a fair fight, so Eda decided to cheat. In the first fight she cheated by cursing Eda, and second she uses Luz Noceda as a hostage and a shield.

However, despite their opposing sides, Eda opts to save her sister from being eaten by a demon, even though she has the lead. Once Eda and Lilith finally make it to the Bloom of Eternal Youth, Eda pushes Lilith and grabs the flower for herself. However, the flower soon vanishes, and the two sisters realize they just walked into a trap. The monster then shows up, revealing himself to be the merchant from earlier. Lilith and Eda realize he isn't much of a threat and beat him up together, creating what appears to be peace between the sisters.

Luz thoroughly wants to rescue Eda, while Eda tells Luz to leave the Boiling Isles and the Demon Realm as a whole, to protect Luz. Eda takes out the magic key, sets the magic door up, and suggests Luz to return to the human realm for the best. The Collector takes King as his personal playmate while turning most of the Boiling Isles' residents into puppets.

In "Elsewhere and Elsewhen", the both of them bonded together, viewing each other as aunt and niece. Lilith and Luz spend some time searching for the pools, and eventually, they manage to find the location. The pools are revealed to be under the sand, and an ecstatic Lilith takes note of her findings. The two travel back to the Deadwardian Era, where after disguising themselves, head into town. Lilith warns Luz to be careful, as they are in the Savage Ages; however, the residents are friendly and the two witness them helping each other out.

When Eda discovers this, Lilith calls her aged and weak because of her curse, so Eda obtains a map to look for the Bloom and prove her wrong. The two of them race each other to the Bloom only to find that it was a trap by the merchant who gave Eda the map. However, they beat him up with little effort, and in the aftermath, Lilith tries to smooth things over by extending another offer to her to join the Emperor's Coven, which Eda politely refuses. As Eda leaves, the merchant offers to bond with Lilith which she refuses in disgust. In the past, Lilith and her younger sister Eda were exceptionally close, with Lilith being willing to share injuries with her sister and, as described by Eda, being her only friend before they met Raine. While Lilith's more straight-laced personality would clash with Eda's mischievous one, the two would participate in many activities together, such as playing grudgby, and they shared a dream of joining the Emperor's Coven.

Warden Wrath shows up, but when he's about to lock Luz and King up, Luz's glyph spells immediately blow up and she manages to defeat all the guards, including Warden Wrath. The quote Lilith relates from Belos explains why Eda is a stronger witch than Lilith. Eda refused to fight her sister, and sacrificed a future in the Emperor’s Coven.

House of 1000 Corpses 20th Anniversary: Rob Zombie on His Cult Classic

house of 1 000 corpses

“Lionsgate made back all their money the first day,” Zombie crowed to the A.V. Safety was an afterthought, with one scene calling for an actor to dodge a real ax wielded by another performer whose vision was severely compromised by his costume. “We just assumed she would get out of the way,” Zombie remarks on the film’s DVD commentary. Mixed in with this motley collection of Zombie’s favorite actors were his friends.

Top cast

Now that Zombie has had his hands on countless titles, making him a mainstay in the horror movie genre, fans might be surprised to learn that House of 1000 Corpses was his directorial debut. Since this debut, Zombie has gone on to make two Halloween movies, The Lords of Salem, 31, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Devil's Rejects, 3 from Hell, and other projects. Making this happen would be difficult, however, which made him reluctant. Luckily, the intervening years had only sharpened House of 1,000 Corpses’ flavor. “It’s a pre-9/11 film, released to a post-9/11 audience, that somehow really handily preempts all these themes we had suddenly become obsessed with in our movies,” Martin said. Surveillance, captivity, revenge, paranoia, culture clash—it was all in there.

Facts about the movie Gunfight at the OK Corral

From its impressive set design to its thrilling plot twists, this film keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. House of 1000 Corpses won't go down in history as the most commercially successful horror movie of all time, nor the most critically acclaimed. This hardcore horror film's style plays like a terrifying music video, providing a roller coaster ride of gruesomely colorful scenes. To the squeamish, this movie can come off as shocking, repulsive, and downright unwatchable, due to its gory nature.

No matter how Zombie feels, however, House of 1000 Corpses continues to make Halloween must-watch lists every year. An artist is entitled to be hard on his early work, but all the fans see is bloody goodness. House of 1000 Corpses contains more intriguing characters than it's actually able to explore. Take Dr. Satan (Walter Phelan), hands down one of the most interesting beings in the Firefly trilogy. The cyborg scientist appears briefly in the movie, but will haunt viewers' nightmares forever, even if he doesn't necessarily fit in with the style of subsequent flicks.

Zombie created a niche film that appeals to fans of unconventional and boundary-pushing horror. The limited time frame challenged the cast and crew to efficiently bring the twisted story to life. The use of vibrant colors, surreal imagery, and unconventional camera angles adds to the unsettling atmosphere. Sid Haig’s portrayal of the sadistic clown made Captain Spaulding an instantly iconic horror character. Eagle-eyed viewers can spot nods to legends like Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff, and movies like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

But whether they formed a huge part of the movie's machinery or acted as a single cog, each of these actors was part of something special. Their legacies will forever live on in House of 1000 Corpses, and in the hearts of horror fans everywhere. It's hard to believe House of 1000 Corpses hit theaters so many years ago. It's even harder to grasp that the world has lost an enormous number of the actors who starred in the cult classic since its release.

The studio completed a theatrical trailer for the film, which was shown in theaters and prior to the Universal ride created by Zombie.[18] Zombie later received a call for a meeting with Stacey Snider, head of Universal. Zombie claimed that many urged him to scrap the film following the fallout with Universal, though he continued to search for a new distributor. Of all the homes on this list, this is the only one so far that will give you beautiful views of the ocean. It has been called the Taj Mahal of Tile and I absolutely love that the house features locally made tile!

The villains' names were inspired by Groucho Marx characters

"I was a big Marx Brothers fan when I was a little kid because their movies were always on TV," Zombie remarked in 2016. "A Night at the Opera, in particular, was on a lot. So I discovered the Marx Brothers movies around the same time I discovered any movie, really." Like other cult classics, House of 1,000 Corpses has also benefited from everyone being online all the time. “It’s gotten really big,” observed Cherry, a costume designer who cosplays as Baby Firefly, and once played her in a haunted house at Zombie’s annual Great American Nightmare scarefest. Not only is the beautiful craftsman style Gamble house an amazing place to visit for architecture fans, but movie fans will appreciate it too. The garage was used as Doc Brown’s house in Back to the Future and the living room shown above was used in Zathura.

The rumor is that this house was owned by Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie. You can park in one of the beach parking lots and walk down to the home or park by one of the neighbors. PCH is a really busy road so it won’t always feel easy to stop for the photo.

Sid Haig, a cult film legend known for his work in Spider Baby and Foxy Brown, was tapped to play the gonzo clown Captain Spaulding. When Denise doesn't come home, her father Don calls the police to report her missing. Don, a former policeman, is called to the scene to help the deputies search. They arrive at the Firefly house and Wydell questions Mother Firefly about the missing teens.

When the studio shelved the film fearing that it would receive an NC-17 rating,[7] Zombie re-acquired the rights. They were eventually sold to Lions Gate Entertainment, who released the film in April 2003. Despite receiving an unfavorable response from critics, it went on to gross $16 million worldwide. Since its release, the film has achieved a cult following, was developed into a haunted-house attraction by Zombie for Universal Studios, and was followed by two sequels, The Devil's Rejects (2005) and 3 from Hell (2019).

Famous Houses in Los Angeles That You Must See In Person

house of 1 000 corpses

It was built from 1961 to 1963 It was built as a cave-like dwelling that embraces nature. I am really looking forward to checking this one out in person in the future. The Eames House, also known as case study #8, is mid-20th century modern architecture. The house was designed by the couple Ray and Charles Eames to serve as their home and studio. Free street parking is available on Corona Del Mar which is a five-minute walk from the house. He also designed one of my favorite places in LA, the Wayfarers Chapel.

House of 1000 Corpses was Rob Zombie's directorial debut

Mother Firefly shoots Wydell in the head and kills him; Don and Steve are then killed by Otis when they find more bodies of missing cheerleaders in the barn, along with a barely conscious Mary. On October 30, 1977, amateur criminals Killer Karl and Richard Wick attempt an armed robbery at a gas station/horror museum, but are killed by the owner, Captain Spaulding, and his assistant, Ravelli. Later that night, Jerry Goldsmith, Bill Hudley, Mary Knowles, and Denise Willis are on the road in hopes of writing a book on offbeat roadside attractions.

The house was built in 1929 as a vacation home for the Adamson family but eventually became their fulltime residence. After the death of the owners, the state won a lawsuit to put beach parking where the house is. The parking lot got approved but thanks to the work of locals and volunteers the house still remains. Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows. There are so many different ways that we are spoiled in Southern California but the incredible variety of homes that we can visit is truly something special.

Dr. Satan might not be real

The hollyhock was Aline’s favorite flower and was used as a theme throughout the house. Even if you cannot tour the home it is visible from the park and the city views are wonderful as well. From psychological horror to slasher elements, the movie weaves together various styles to create a truly unique viewing experience. House of 1000 Corpses has earned a dedicated fanbase who appreciate its blend of horror, dark humor, and distinctive visual style. Zombie not only directed the movie but also wrote the twisted script, showcasing his talent as a filmmaker. Some of these actors were a major part of the movie, present for the majority of its runtime.

The movie mutated on the fly, the scenes mercury in Zombie’s hands as he showed up each morning brimming with new ideas—new pages for the cast to memorize, new sets for the crew to construct. Moseley himself was one of them, having already collected a number of horror credits, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, the Night of the Living Dead remake, and Army of Darkness. For Mama Firefly, Zombie turned to Karen Black of Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces fame.

Production country

It stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Karen Black, Rainn Wilson, Chris Hardwick, Tom Towles, Erin Daniels, Jennifer Jostyn, Walton Goggins, and Dennis Fimple in his final role. The plot centers on a group of teenagers who are kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic family during Halloween after traveling across the country to write a book. The Ennis House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924. The house has 27,000 perforated and patterned decomposed granite blocks. The house consists of two buildings that are separated by a courtyard.

This is the only Neutra designed home that is available for tours. It is called the research house because it was built with a loan from a patron. A fire destroyed most of the house in 1963 and was rebuilt by Neutra’s son with the Dad’s oversight. This home and park have such a wonderful variety of activities for visitors. You can tour the home (during non-covid times), go horseback riding, hiking, attend movie nights over the summer, and polo games. In the 1920’s he bought land in Santa Monica and his 359 acres included some land that would later become part of Pacific Palisades.

The movie was initially banned in some countries due to its extreme content.

When the four meet Spaulding, who is also the owner of "The Museum of Monsters & Madmen", they learn of the local legend of Dr. Satan. As they take off in search of the tree from which Dr. Satan was hanged, they pick up a young free-spirited hitchhiker named Baby, who claims to live only a few miles away. Shortly after, a mysterious figure appears hidden in some overgrowth and shoots out their vehicle's tire with a shotgun. The group thinks it is just a blown out tire and so Baby takes Bill to her family's house to get a tow truck. Moments later, Baby's half-brother, Rufus, picks up the stranded passengers and takes them to the family home. This house is most likely recognized from being used in the movie The Big Lebowski.

The Sowden House, like The Derby House, was designed by Lloyd Wright in 1926. You used to be able to tour the house but now the new owners only make it available to the public during special events. This house was created by Frank Gehry for him and his family in 1978. He changed an existing house and turned it into something truly unique. The neighbors may not have been thrilled with what the home became but it looks like something really fun to see in person. The Hollyhock House was designed by Frank Llyod Wright for Aline Barnsdall though she quickly became disillusioned with the home and donated it to the city of LA.

You can see the house in a number of movies including Blade Runner. About last night…thanks to @yielddesignco for inviting us into the sowden house and introducing us to your black dahlia cbd candle. That was epic and a long time dream of mine to see inside this historic lloyd wright house. Movie enthusiasts flock to these events to experience the chilling atmosphere of the film alongside fellow horror fans.

Otis torments Denise using the skin of her dead father's face as a mask. Mary attempts to run away, but is tracked down and stabbed to death by Baby moments later. This adorable home stands out on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica.

UNC coach Sylvia Hatchell, another North Carolina Sports Hall of Famer, first called for a lob to Sylvia Crawley. When the Lady Techsters appeared to have the play covered, UNC called another time out and this time the Heels – and Smith – were going for the win. The rest was history, as Smith set a pick and rolled to a spot right in front of the UNC bench before lofting up the game-winning 3-pointer. Few will argue women’s college basketball has ever been hotter, audiences tuning in for a product brimming with storied programs, transcendent coaches and a cache of emerging talent. Charlotte Smith's continued leadership and coaching expertise will be pivotal as the Elon Phoenix strive for further success in future games and tournaments. "I talk about how it's not how you start but how you finish," Smith said.

NCAA Season Stats - Advanced Stats

The Phoenix lost three starters from that team but returned leading scorer Shay Burnett, a guard who's one of three seniors for Elon. Those seniors are kept busy mentoring six freshmen and three sophomores; there are no juniors. Burnett is the team's second-leading scorer (13.4 PPG) behind 6-foot-4 sophomore center Ra'Shika White (14.3 PPG). She was actually the first full-time women’s college coach in the state of North Carolina, when Yow was hired to be the volleyball, women’s basketball and slow-pitch softball coach at State. Smith also represented the U.S. internationally, most notably winning a gold medal and MVP honors in the 1996 Jones Cup. She also played in the 1995 World University Games and was a member of the South Team in the 1993 U.S.

Smith was positioned near inbounds passer Stephanie Lawrence to the left of the lane. Three Louisiana Tech players converged on Sampson, and Smith dashed to the right wing and was wide open. With one legendary shot, Charlotte Smith cemented her spot in Carolina women’s basketball history, but not without some anxious moments and confusion coming out of the huddle. After her collegiate eligibility ended in 1995, Smith joined a professional basketball club in Italy. She was named Most Valuable Player of the Italian league's All-Star game for the 1995–1996 season.

USA Basketball

Charlotte Smith has already become Elon University’s all-time winningest women’s basketball coach in just 12 seasons at the helm there, but she joins several other outstanding women’s coaches who are enshrined in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. “When she said that I was gonna take the shot, my heart really sank because it’s a lot of pressure — national championship game, everything hanging in the balance off of a shot,” said Smith, admitting that she’d never been more nervous in a game. Following the ABL's cessation of operations in 1999, Smith participated in the 1999 WNBA Draft, where the Charlotte Sting chose her with the 33rd overall pick. During offseasons, she interned with the Sting's front office, worked with US Sport Management, Inc., played a second winter season in Italy in 1999–2000, and served as an UNC women's basketball assistant coach for several seasons.

She was an assistant with several USA Basketball teams and spent nine seasons as an assistant at her alma mater. One was her idol, Michael Jordan, the basketball legend who hit the game-winner in the Tar Heels’ 1982 NCAA title game against Georgetown. As a young girl growing up in Shelby, N.C., Smith wanted to “be like Mike” even though her uncle is N.C. State’s great David Thompson and Dereck Whittenburg, who played on the Wolfpack’s 1983 title team, is her cousin. When she was in Italy, Smith met many women's college basketball stars that she never had the opportunity to see play stateside.

The only other Carolina women’s player with a retired number is Ivory Latta. Charlotte Smith, the head coach of the Elon Phoenix, achieved her 200th coaching victory on Jan. 12, 2024, with a road win against Campbell. This milestone is a testament to her exceptional coaching career at Elon, leading the team to two CAA championships and NCAA Tournament bids since taking over in 2011. Smith's coaching journey has been characterized by numerous memorable victories, showcasing her leadership and the team's achievements. That summer, Smith represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics for the United States men's national basketball team, which won the gold medal.

"When I'm in a silly mood," says junior guard Tonya Cooper, "I can always count on Charlotte to be silly with me." "After we tied up the ball, I remember so vividly looking up at the clock, and my heart sank," Smith said. "I was thinking, 'What can you do in seven-tenths of a second?' I felt like we had lost the game. I felt this deep sense of grief overcome me." And Smith remains close with her mentor, North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell, who is approaching her 1,000th career win.

Charlotte Smith (born August 23, 1973)[1] is a retired American professional women's basketball player for the Charlotte Sting, Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever in the WNBA, and for the Colorado Xplosion and San Jose Lasers in the ABL. She is currently the women's basketball head coach at Elon University. Thompson also told her that repeating as NCAA champion will be twice as hard as winning the first time. "Everyone will be gunning for you," said Thompson, whose Wolfpack failed to make the tournament as defending champions his senior year.

Another interesting sidelight is that Hatchell was an assistant coach for the 1988 U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team which won the gold medal at the Games in Seoul, Korea. The ball slithered through the net for Smith’s only 3-pointer of the season, UNC won 60–59, and the Tar Heels (33–2) were national champions on a memorable Sunday afternoon that fans, players and coaches will never forget.

Fort Lauderdale Port Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Azamara Onward will finish the 2024 season at Port Everglades with an inaugural 155-night World Voyage departing January 5, 2024, visiting over 40 countries with 22 overnight stays and 27 late nights in port. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. Each terminal at the cruise port in Fort Lauderdale has between 1,000 and 3,000 seats and can supplement that number with folding chairs during long delays. RCG (which also owns Celebrity Cruises) homeported Celebrity Edge here, starting turnaround operations in 2018 (on December 1st).

Security and check-in

Once through the CBP checkpoint, you’ll exit the terminal and find your transportation back to your hotel, airport, or home. When you debark, you can have the option of setting large bags outside the cabin the night before. The crew will pick them up and deliver the bags to the terminal for you. In this case you’ll need to wait until your debarkation group is told it’s time to get off the ship. If this is how your ship boards, we suggest actually arriving later in the boarding window. There is often a rush of passengers right at the start of boarding — and the ship may not be ready to accept passengers.

Several off-site private parking lots are available near the Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale cruise port. In addition, several Fort Lauderdale hotels offer Park and Fly packages that allow you to leave your car for the duration of your cruise.
